Figure-Ground Segmentation

My research focuses on figure-ground segmentation, the process by which important regions of the images are extracted from the retinal image, identifying the central figure or figures, and the background. Important quesions in this field concern how figure-ground segmentation relates to other processes, like object recognition, contour completion, and border assignment. To investigate these questions I am using a combination of psychophysics and imaging.
